Summer Labiaplasty For Itty-Bitty Bikini Season!

Back to All

Summer is synonymous with bikinis, and you definitely need a swimsuit to thrive during summer in Austin. Whether you’re beating the Texas heat by cooling down in Barton Springs, taking a boat out on Lake Travis, or simply relaxing by a pool, there are lots of opportunities for summer fun right around the corner.

Unfortunately, the thought of putting on a bathing suit is anxiety-producing for so many women, for so many reasons. Women who come to Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation for labiaplasty often say that having an enlarged labia makes it difficult to find bathing suit bottoms that provide sufficient coverage. An enlarged labia can also cause irritation if you’re wearing a tight-fitting bikini. While we can’t help you with your bikini search, we can absolutely help you if you are having difficulty with an enlarged labia.

Patients with an enlarged labia come to ALVR from all over Texas for labiaplasty. Sometimes referred to as “barbie vagina,” “designer vagina,” or “labia reduction surgery,” labiaplasty involves reducing the inner labia (labia minora) by removing excess tissue. We use a trimming technique to reduce the linear portion of darkened skin that extends from the vaginal opening to the clitoral hood. The “wedge technique” is then used to reduce the skin where the clitoral hood meets the labia.

How do you know if you need a labiaplasty? If you have an enlarged labia, your labia tissue is probably easily irritated by exercise or tight clothes. You might also find that sexual intercourse is painful or uncomfortable, making it difficult to climax. It’s also possible that you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your labia, or experiencing asymmetry. If this sounds familiar, then you’re likely a good candidate for labiaplasty.

Labiaplasty is a safe and simple procedure that is typically performed in our state-of-the-art offices. This isn’t just more comfortable for patients – it also helps to keep costs down. All patients, regardless of their location, can expect a consultation prior to their procedure as we are able to offer virtual consultations for patients who want to travel to Austin for their labiaplasty. Remote patients will be asked to share photos through a secure portal ahead of time so that we can review them during the session. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your symptoms and align on a plan for your procedure.

When it’s finally time for your labiaplasty, you’ll arrive at our office where we’ll provide you with medicine to address any pain or anxiety you have. We’ll also numb the area with a topic anesthetic and provide you with a patient-controlled, inhaled analgesic to use throughout the procedure. From start to finish, you can expect to be in our office for 2 to 3 hours for your labiaplasty. All patients will need to have a friend or family member who can drive them home afterwards.

Following your procedure, we suggest taking about a week off of work to heal. We also suggest avoiding any intercourse for about six weeks to further aid the healing process. Patients will also have one or two follow-up appointments to ensure everything is looking good. As for swimming in that summer bikini? You’ll want to wait 2-4 weeks before hitting the pool, but you can absolutely lounge poolside until then.

If you’re ready to look into labiaplasty, we’d love to connect. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
