The hymen is the natural piece of tissue present at the opening of the vagina. Often when it’s broken, small pieces of the tissue are left behind. This leftover tissue, known as hymenal remnants or hymenal tags, can be removed safely in just ten to fifteen minutes.
What is a Hymenectomy?
If the hymen is overly thick, or if leftover tissue remains after it is ruptured, it can cause discomfort, pain, and even more significant gynecological issues. Hymenal remnant removal, or hymenectomy, is the removal of excess or leftover skin from the hymen so that it no longer blocks the vaginal opening. It is a relatively quick and simple procedure performed in our office.

How Does a Hymenectomy Work?
Hymenal remnant removal, or hymenectomy, is a simple procedure performed in the comfort of the ALVR offices. Patients are given local anesthesia, excess hymenal tissue is removed, and the surgical wounds are tended to.
Most treatments are completed in less than 15 minutes. Pain medication is prescribed before the treatment to alleviate any post-procedure discomfort.
