Kickstart Your Sex Life

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has repeatedly proven its ability to break down scar tissue, stimulate growth factors, and increase blood flow to the area of application. Now, ALVR is excited to announce that this incredible technology is available to women to help increase sexual satisfaction.

There’s no doubt that most people would rank sex as one of the most – if not the most – pleasurable experiences there is. Unfortunately, there is a very real “pleasure gap” between men and women, meaning that men orgasm ~90% of the time during sex whereas women orgasm ~40% of the time. There are obviously many factors that can play into individual sexual satisfaction, both pyschological and physical, and while some of these issues may have relatively straightforward solutions others are more outside of our control (hormones and genetics, for example). Maybe you’re someone who feels as though your sex life is…pretty OK? Not bad, but could be better? If you’re curious about ways to kick things up a notch, ESWT may be just what you’re looking for.

What Is Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy And How Does It Work?

ESWT is a type of acoustic soundwave therapy where a high amplitude soundwave is focused on a small area, which creates a “shock” to the tissue. This causes a painless “micro trauma” which leads the tissue to restructure – meaning that it regenerates vascularity and nerve function. High intensity ESWT has been used for years to treat kidney stones (the procedure is called Lithotripsy) however in that case it is designed to completely destroy the stones so that they can be passed during urination. Medium and low intensity ESWT have developed as treatments for inflammation in orthopedics, and are applied to areas like joints and the hip to help stem and reverse tissue degeneration. There are also additional uses in cardiology.

As a treatment for sexual dysfunction, ESWT was first used as a tool for treating ED in males. Because penile and clitoral tissue are closely related, when ESWT is applied to clitoral tissue the clitoris becomes more sensitive, leading to greater sexual responsiveness and more frequent and intense orgasms. ESWT treatment is generally measured in the number of shocks applied to the specific area, and for clitoral tissue it’s 1000 shocks to each side. That may sound like a lot, but we assure you the whole process is painless and goes quickly! The total number of treatments the patient will undergo depends on how their body responds to ESWT, but typically 1-2 treatments per week for 4 weeks is common.

Additional Treatments for Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSSD)

The mainstay of treatments for sexual dysfunction in women is testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). At Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation, we offer SottoPelle, a form of TRT that comes in pellets that are inserted into the skin and dissolve over time. TRT actually has the effect of increasing the size of the clitoris, which boosts sensitivity and sexual arousal (not to mention the other positive side effects of testosterone therapy, such as more energy and boosted mood).

Each of these treatments can be used individually, or combined with each other for greater effect. If you are interested in learning more about our offering of sexual wellness treatments, contact us today to schedule a free consultation.
