My Clitoris Is Swollen… Should I Be Concerned?
Posted by ALVR | July 12, 2023
Back to AllYou’re making a mad dash to the mailbox in the rain, and your vaginal area chafes like it didn’t use to before. You’re settling into some intimate activity, and your clitoris is making a more prominent entrance than usual. Does any of this sound like you lately? You might be dealing with some changes in your anatomy.
Clitoral swelling is normal in cases of arousal or irritation. But in most cases when the mood transitions, or yirritant is removed, you’ll go back to your own personal normal. When the changes seem to be permanent—lasting days with no change, or resulting in what looks like full growth rather than temporary enlargement—it can be cause for concern. But how can you tell what might be going on before (gingerly) jumping to conclusions?
Are you in pain?
A good indication that something may need attention is whether or not you’re feeling acute discomfort. Because mental wellness is part of overall health, any prolonged distress you might feel as a result of your clitoral growth is just as significant as any physical irritation. Regardless of whether your pain is physical, mental, or both, if your anatomical changes are due to permanent tissue growth a clitoropexy, clitoral hood reduction, or both are procedures we can offer that will remove as much or as little as you need.
Are hormonal changes at play?
Whether you’re experiencing hormonal fluctuations from childbirth, aging, or BHRT/HRT, enlargement of the clitoris (clitoromegaly) is possible. An increase in androgens can have this effect with no real harm being done, provided you’re still comfortable. How we would proceed from here is entirely up to you—if you’re adjusting to the growth well, great! If not, you might want to consider exploring your options including hormonal dose adjustment and in some cases clitoral glans reduction.
