What Kind of Vagina Is Considered “Normal”?

Back to All

What first formed your standard for what a “normal” vagina looks like? For many people, it was modern pornography, a band camp dare, or comments from a romantic partner. “Innie vaginas” make up what many consider to be the standard: vulvas where the labia minora (inner lips) do not extend past the labia majora (outer lips). Meanwhile, “outie vaginas”, or vulvas with labia minora that are larger and extend past the labia majora, tend to get a little less spotlight.

While both kinds of vulvas (and everything in between) are completely normal—both from a numbers perspective, and even a romantic preferences perspective—sometimes those with “outies” find that the additional tissue causes discomfort when wearing certain types of clothing. In addition, it can even interfere with sensation or rub uncomfortably during sexual intercourse. If an individual decides that their “outie vagina” is becoming a problem, our goal at Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation is to provide them with treatment options to increase their wellbeing.
