Local Anesthesia for Labiaplasty

In addition to oral narcotics and sedatives that are given before the labiaplasty procedure, we use Pro-Nox, a patient-controlled, inhaled analgesic made of 50% nitrous oxide and 50% oxygen. The Pro-nox takes only seconds to go into effect, and a topical numbing agent is then applied and an injectable numbing medication (lidocaine) is administered to the excess skin of the labia for local anesthesia and hemostasis. The numbing effect of lidocaine lasts one to two and a half hours. The oral pain medication is continued after the labiaplasty procedure for pain control.
