What is a Clitoropexy?

Clitoropexy is a procedure that is used to elevate and reduce the protrusion of the clitoris. It is most commonly performed on patients with an enlarged clitoris, and is frequently performed in conjunction with a clitoral hood reduction for a comprehensive treatment.

In patients with clitoromegaly, a clitoropexy is done in conjunction with clitoral prepuce reduction to further reduce the overall size of the clitoris.

How Does a Clitoropexy Work?

Clitoropexy is an in-office procedure performed under local and oral anesthetic. The surgery entails shortening the suspensory ligament that lies above the clitoris. By shortening the ligament, the clitoris is pulled up and in, reducing the external appearance. The nerve and blood supply to the clitoris lie beneath the clitoris and are not affected by this procedure.

In patients with enlarged labia that pull down on the clitoris, clitoropexy is done in conjunction with a labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction. This brings the clitoris back to its natural position and also reduces excess tissue which may be present once the clitoris is elevated. This allows for a more natural appearance of the labia and clitoris following labiaplasty.

In patients with clitoromegaly, clitoropexy is done in conjunction with clitoral prepuce reduction to further reduce the overall size of the clitoris.

All of these procedures are performed in our office surgical suite under oral and local sedation.
