Is The O-Shot (Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy) Right For Me?

Back to All

If you’re a spa lover, chances are you’ve heard of a PRP, or “vampire”, facial – but that’s just one of several new, innovative ways that platelet-rich plasma therapy is being used across the health and wellness industry.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s break down exactly what platelet-rich plasma or PRP therapy actually means: your blood contains plasma which has proteins designed to help with clotting, and PRP is when you isolate the plasma by concentrating it. So basically, PRP is a concentration of your very own blood.

PRP is rich in cells and proteins that help with healing. Once injected, PRP encourages the production of even more healthy cells and aids with the repair of damaged tissue. It is being used to treat everything from hair loss and muscle and joint injury to post-surgical healing.

Fairly recently, PRP was identified as an effective treatment option for sexual dysfunction. Here at Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation, PRP is used as part of the O-Shot (also called the “orgasm shot”) to restore and enhance sexual wellness among female patients. There are many variables that can lead to sexual dysfunction in women, including genetics, hormonal changes, and emotional well-being.

How do you know if this might be impacting you? You might be suffering from sexual dysfunction if you’re experiencing symptoms like decreased libido or arousal, vaginal dryness, or discomfort during intercourse.

From start to finish, the platelet-rich plasma therapy procedure takes about an hour. It begins with a simple blood draw to get none other than…PRP! This involves taking the blood and placing it within a centrifuge, a fast-spinning machine that allows the plasma to be separated and extracted from the rest of your blood. While the blood is being processed, we’ll numb the injection spot for comfort. From here, the PRP shot is injected into the clitorial tissue. As for downtime, it’s fairly minimal and the risks are low. PRP is often used in conjunction with other services like labiaplasty, vaginoplasty or SottoPelle testosterone replacement therapy

Because not all PRP is created equal, it’s also important to us to let patients know that we use the most advanced technology in the industry to process PRP. The amount of blood drawn, the amount needed for the treatment, and how the blood is processed are all critical variables to getting the best concentration. We’re able to tailor the concentration and volume to ensure your treatment is as effective as possible.

Following the procedure, patients can expect to see increased vaginal lubrication and blood flow. By stimulating tissue regeneration, PRP enhances clitoral function and stimulation which ultimately means better orgasms and increased pleasure. The duration of benefits varies among patients, but it can last anywhere between six months and two years. As a rule of thumb, we typically suggest that patients receive treatment every year for the best results.
