Back to All

Did you know that there are over 60 million women over the age of 50 living in the United States? Did you know that every year in America around 2.5 million babies are born via vaginal delivery? While age and childbirth are two obvious factors that can seriously impact an individual’s pelvic and vaginal anatomy, there are also many women out there experiencing negative symptoms for a variety of reasons through no fault of their own. Take our word for it: if you are thinking about whether or not vaginal rejuvenation may be right for you, you are not alone.

What does “vaginal rejuvenation” mean?

The term vaginal rejuvenation encompasses several different procedures and treatment options for a wide array of issues. Ultimately, it boils down to restoring the function and/or appearance of the vagina in order to improve the patient’s quality of life. As mentioned above, there are many common ways in which the normal function and appearance of the vagina can decline over time. For some, this may not be an issue, but for others it could add stress and embarrassment to their day to day life, negatively impact their sexual health, or cause other forms of distress.

What issues can vaginal rejuvenation help address?

Many of the most common issues that lead women to research vaginal rejuvenation have to do with a weakened pelvic floor and/or vaginal atrophy. Essentially, this means physical changes to the tissues in and around the vagina and pelvic area that are responsible for keeping everything in place and working the way they are supposed to. Common symptoms include: irritation, dryness, a less youthful appearance, decreased sexual sensation, incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse.

What type of vaginal rejuvenation treatment is best for me?

The recommended treatment will depend on your particular symptoms. Generally speaking, for issues such as dryness, decreased sexual sensation, and minor relaxation of the vaginal tissue we recommend ThermiVa, a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that can be performed in our office. In cases of pelvic organ prolapse or major relaxation of the vaginal tissue, vaginal rejuvenation surgery may be the better option.

Overall, we find that ThermiVa is usually the best option for most of our patients at ALVR. If you’re ready to learn more, schedule your consultation with our team today!
