What Is The Difference Between SottoPelle and BioTe?

Back to All

Hormone treatments have taken many different forms over the years, and, as is often the case, there was a lot of trial and error involved. Believe it or not, one of the first examples was introduced in the 1940s and was made using estrogen derived from horse urine. Perhaps even harder to believe, is that many of the drugs that contain estrogen today are still using estrogen made from horse urine.

If the thought of taking horse estrogen makes you want to jump in the saddle and ride away from hormone therapy as fast as you possibly can, don’t giddy up quite yet. Over the years, there have been some breakthrough innovations when it comes to hormone therapy and we’re happy to say that things have come a long way since the ‘40s.

And to answer that question you’re dying to ask: no, they don’t involve animal urine of any kind.

The story behind SottoPelle and BioTe

The two biggest players in the field of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) are SottoPelle (which we offer at ALVR), and BioTe. BioTe is actually based in Dallas, so it’s pretty well known in our area. These products are very similar, and not without reason: the founder of BioTe started the company after leaving SottoPelle!

We have chosen to offer our patients SottoPelle for one simple reason: when it comes to BHRT, SottoPelle has pioneered and refined the use of hormone pellets, which we believe are the most effective hormone delivery system. The issue with other methods, such as creams and pills, is that the release of hormones is sporadic and all of the hormones are released at once. With pellet implants the hormones are secreted continuously. That means fewer side effects and ups and downs. Dosing is such an important part of BHRT, and SottoPelle has created a unique methodology for dosing, called BioCalc, that is only available to SottoPelle providers.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms of hormonal imbalance then SottoPelle might be right for you:

  • Low or no libido
  • Fatigue/lack of motivation
  • Hair loss
  • Weight gain
  • Decrease in muscular strength and tone
  • Fertility and menstrual issues
  • Depression and anxiety
