Dr. Shashoua vs. Plastic Surgeon vs. OBGYN vs. Dermatologist

Back to All

There’s a lot that goes into determining whether vaginal rejuvenation is right for you or not. And, if so, who is qualified to perform said procedure. At Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation, one of our top priorities is confidence – the attainment of confidence after your procedure, and being 100% confident of what you’re getting before your procedure. Pelvic floor reconstruction surgery is a big deal, and we’re here to guide you through it every step of the way.

That’s why we lay it all out for you and always strive to bring you the information necessary to make educated decisions concerning your health and wellbeing.

Plastic surgery or urogyn surgery?

Whether you’re looking for the best surgeon to perform a long sought after labiaplasty or you just want to tighten things up down there, put your fate in the hands of a surgeon who is Board Certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. George Shashoua is a board certified urogynecologist in Austin with ample experience in labiaplasty, vaginal rejuvenation, and major reconstructive repairs including robotic and vaginal prolapse surgery.

So, can a labiaplasty be performed by a plastic surgeon? Yes. However, typically plastic surgeons are also performing surgeries of all different body parts, such as the nose, breasts, or fat reduction. If you want a breast augmentation, you go to the plastic surgeon. If you want a vaginal surgery, you go to the surgeon who specializes in pelvic floor reconstruction surgery. Like Dr. Shashoua at Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation.

Urogynecologist or Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN)?

This decision starts with a simple question – are you having a baby or fixing your vagina after delivery?

If you’re planning babies, you see your OBGYN. If you want to restore your vaginal anatomy back to how it was before babies or to pretty up the labia, you go to the urogynecologist who is board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.

You won’t be waiting on your surgeon to get back from a delivery or for them to brush up on their labiaplasty skills. There is an art and precision to performing vaginal surgeries such as vaginal rejuvenation and labiaplasty. And while we often love our OBGYNs and keeping our care in one place, when it comes to vaginal surgery, you want to see a specialized expert.

Dr. George Shashoua performs labiaplasty and vaginal surgeries several days a week, every week. He curtails procedures to each individual patient’s needs and physical findings. OBGYN practices are busy with pre, post-natal care, annual exams, hormone therapy, fertility issues, the list goes on. Our patients come to see us for urogyn related issues only: vaginal reconstruction, treatment of stress urinary incontinence, and labiaplasties.

It’s what we do and you’ll find us to be the ones who do it best. Still not sure? Check out our vaginal rejuvenation before and after pictures and reviews of how former patients explain their experiences.

Dr. Shashoua or a dermatologist for your labiaplasty?

We love our derms and refer to them often, for skin conditions! But when it comes to labiaplasty surgery, Dr. George Shashoua is the one you want to go with. If you have a suspicious mole or family history of skin cancer, see your dermatologist! If you want the perfect labia and you’re bothered by the length, feeling, or appearance of your labia, see Dr. Shashoua.

At Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation, it’s all in the name and it’s all we do. Board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Shashoua routinely performs major reconstructive vaginal and robotic surgeries, vaginal rejuvenation and labiaplasty.

While a laser might be great for your face, it doesn’t quite do it for the labia. The only way to achieve the perfect labia is in the hands of a skilled surgeon with ample experience. Our labiaplasty before and after pictures will show you just that.
