Monsplasty Without Abdominoplasty? Yes, It’s Possible

Back to All

A monsplasty is the process of removing fatty tissue and excess skin from the mons pubis, the area right above the pubic bone. There are several reasons why the mons pubis might be more noticeable for some women, including the usual suspects: genetics, hormones, and aging. Dramatic weight gain or loss can also lead to excess fatty tissue and skin in the mons pubis. Skin tends to lose its elasticity over time, so it’s not uncommon for skin to sag after losing weight.

Another culprit not often discussed are C-sections. Many women find that the skin around a C-section scar is tight, causing the skin below it to become more prominent. Women have come to ALVR for monsplasty after c-sections, stating that the feeling of bulging mons felt abnormal and uncomfortable. A C-section is already traumatic enough as it is; you shouldn’t have to deal with any further issues.

A monsplasty or pubic lift is often done at the same time as a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, so it is commonly performed by a plastic surgeon. This is because a tummy tuck tightens the abdomen by removing fatty tissue, making any extra tissue more noticeable. However, there are women out there that want a monsplasty without a tummy tuck – and they come to the team at Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation.

At first blush, it’s easy to assume that a monsplasty is simply done for aesthetic reasons. While a more prominent mons pubis can certainly cause insecurity, it can also lead to other issues as well. In some instances, excess tissue can make it harder to maintain proper hygiene.

Monsplasty is a fairly straightforward procedure that’s performed in an outpatient facility with general anesthesia. We’re able to remove excess fatty tissue by making a subrapubic incision. It’s common for patients at ALVR to get another procedure like labiaplasty, vaginoplasty or labia majora reduction at the same time. And if you’re not in the Austin area, no worries: As with labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation, we’re able to accommodate patients from San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and all over Texas (and beyond!). Make a vajay-cay out of it!

Patients can typically see results from monsplasty immediately, with the area appearing smoother and firmer, however it does take time to heal. As with most surgeries, we encourage patients to take a week off of work. It’s important to avoid any strenuous activity that might compromise your recovery, which is why it’s suggested that patients wait at least four weeks before getting back into exercise. You might notice a little pinch where the stitches were, but that should dissipate over time.

If you’re looking into mons pubis reduction, you’re in good hands. We’re ready when you are, and can answer any and all questions you have along the way. Contact us today for a free consultation.
