How Much Time do I Have to Take Off for Labiaplasty?

Back to All

With school, work, family, travel, sports, etc. who has time to schedule surgery?! Fear not. Labiaplasty surgery usually requires one week off from work, occasionally two weeks. Also, recovering from surgery is a great excuse to cancel unwanted plans (feel free to use this excuse for several weeks if needed)!

Many women say they have been bothered by the size of their enlarged labia since their teens or early 20s. Some didn’t know labiaplasty surgery existed, some couldn’t find a qualified surgeon, others just had trouble carving out a little time for themselves. For something that can take up so much of one’s time with worry, discomfort, dissatisfaction and maybe hours of research trying to find the right doctor – this is a relatively short procedure with minimal downtime.

After the labiaplasty procedure, our patients can participate in activities with comfort, ease, and no more planning or researching because their labiaplasty surgery is behind them! The procedure is done in the office and takes approximately three hours. Patients take pain medication for 1-2 weeks and that is the amount of time they need to take off from work.

Other restrictions include no intercourse for about six weeks until the area has completely healed and avoiding fresh water or extremely strenuous exercise that may disrupt the incisions for around 6 weeks. Ideally, patients are not traveling for 4-6 weeks post op so we can help them quickly with all of their post-op needs. Having said this, we see a number of patients from out of town, from all over Texas as well as from other states. We have a process in place for remote visits, including secure photo uploading and phone calls with a nurse or provider. In-person visits are needed for any acute issues.

Our patients overwhelmingly say they wish they had done this a long time ago. So, yes there is a little time off from work, but then there is a lifetime of enjoyment!
