Do PRP Injections Hurt?
Posted by ALVR | October 8, 2021
Back to AllIf you’re looking into getting the “O-Shot” (a PRP injection into your clitoral tissue), you might hear the word “shot” and instantly wonder if it’s a painful procedure. Don’t worry, it’s totally normal to be a little nervous!
Luckily, we’ve got good news for you: Not only has the O-Shot been shown to help with female sexual dysfunction, but at ALVR we use a numbing cream to help reduce any discomfort during injection. In fact, the entire procedure is incredibly simple, with little downtime and big results.
Before we get into the treatment process, let’s address why you would need an O-Shot in the first place. More and more women are turning to the O-Shot to help address sexual dysfunction – a common issue that’s rarely talked about in women’s wellness. Sexual dysfunction can create symptoms like decreased libido, vaginal dryness, and pain during intercourse. The cause of sexual dysfunction can be anything from hormonal changes to genetics (for more information on hormones, see our recent blog on the subject).
That’s where the O-Shot comes in. The O-Shot is essentially a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection. If you’re not familiar with PRP, it’s a substance that’s derived by filtering and concentrating a patient’s own blood. The platelets found in PRP consist of growth factors that aid with tissue regeneration, collagen production, and help increase blood flow to the injection site. It’s increasingly used throughout the medical field, with doctors sometimes using it to treat and heal wounds. (And yes, it’s also used at medspas as part of the famous “vampire facial”!)
From start to finish, it takes about an hour to get the O-Shot injection. We begin with a simple blood draw so that we can get the PRP. The blood draw is placed in a centrifuge, a fast-spinning machine that is used to separate the plasma from the rest of the blood. While the blood is being processed, we’ll numb the injection site to minimize any pain you might feel. Then, once ready, the PRP is injected into the clitorial tissue.
Because of how straightforward the treatment is, oftentimes patients will schedule along with services like labiaplasty, vaginoplasty, or Sottopelle testosterone replacement therapy. Once injected, the O-Shot stimulates tissue regeneration and enhances clitoral function. Patients will begin to see increased vaginal lubrication and blood flow, and ultimately better orgasms.
Don’t let sexual dysfunction – or a fear of shots – keep you from living your best life. If you think you’re suffering from sexual dysfunction and want to see if the O-Shot is right for you, contact us today for a free consultation!
