How Long Does Vaginal Rejuvenation Last?
Posted by ALVR | December 24, 2021
Back to AllChildbirth, age, genetics – these are a few of the reasons why women might seek out vaginal rejuvenation. All of these factors can cause the vagina and perineum to stretch, altering how your vagina looks and feels. This isn’t just a damaging blow to your confidence; it can also have serious implications for your sex life. Changes to the vaginal structure can lead to decreased sensation or vaginal looseness during sex. It can also cause vaginal dryness and stress incontinence.
Given how disruptive these symptoms can be, it’s no wonder why patients might ask: How long does vaginal rejuvenation last? Is it a permanent solution or does it require regular maintenance? That’s a great question, and unfortunately the answer isn’t so straightforward. Longevity of results varies based on your condition and the corresponding treatment plan. When patients first come to us for a consultation about vaginal rejuvenation, we’ll assess their symptoms to better understand what procedure is most appropriate for them.
Let’s say you’re noticing mild symptoms like vaginal dryness. In this case, you might be a good candidate for ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation – however this treatment requires regular maintenance in the long-term. If you’re experiencing symptoms stemming from vaginal looseness, like a gaping appearance or decreased sensation during intercourse, we typically suggest surgical vaginal rejuvenation. Vaginal looseness is often an indicator of vaginal prolapse, so it’s possible that some candidates will need a formal prolapse repair as well.
You might not necessarily be thrilled at the idea of surgery, but the good news is that vaginoplasty, or surgical vaginal rejuvenation, offers lasting, long-term results. Vaginoplasty involves reducing the size of the vaginal opening and removing any loose tissue, thereby tightening the vagina. And when performed with a board-certified surgeon like Dr. Shashoua, it’s also a safe procedure. Vaginoplasty procedures are performed under anesthesia in a hospital or surgery center, and they tend to take around two hours or so. From here, we suggest you take about 2 weeks off from work and wait at least 6 weeks after surgery to have sex. This will allow the vaginal tissue time to heal.
As for any stitches? No need to have them removed. The sutures are fully dissolvable and take 5-6 weeks to go away. Patients recovering from vaginoplasty will also take pain medication for 2-3 weeks after the procedure. While this should alleviate any pain or discomfort, we also have a provider available 24/7 for any additional pain management.
A little downtime for a lifetime of results? Sounds like a good trade-off if you ask us! If you’re ready to explore your options, contact us today at Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation.
