Expectant mothers have a lot to look forward to and plenty to learn, so we thought we’d give a rundown on our area of expertise: the female pelvic anatomy. Here’s what to look out for after vaginal birth.

EN: There are a lot of changes that occur after vaginal deliveries that can be really overwhelming and scary, and leave many women wondering what’s actually normal. Immediately following birth, and up to a few months afterwards, many women may notice something coming down into the vagina, or feel sensations of heaviness or pressure within the vagina. This is often the uterus dropping down, into the vaginal canal, and with time, it will typically elevate back up on its own. Although it sounds scary, this is common and not a worrisome finding, we tell most women that changes after delivery can take a full six months to a year to return to normal, so you need to give your body the time it needs to adjust and to heal. If after a year you’re still concerned, regarding any heaviness or pressure, then you may wanna seek further evaluation and treatment. At your visit with us, we would perform a pelvic exam, and be able to provide you with the necessary information regarding the anatomy, and any recommendations for treatment.
