Sex After Labiaplasty: How Long Should I Wait? 

Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner, that means many women are looking into labiaplasty to be the best version of themselves! While it isn’t a major surgery, it definitely requires rest and recovery time. A question we often hear before we perform a labiaplasty is “how long after labiaplasty surgery can I have sex?” This depends on several factors like age, amount of tissue removed, overall health profile, and many other things. 

Sex After Labiaplasty: Worth it to Wait! 

The labiaplasty procedure involves the trimming of the thickened, darker skin that extends from the opening of the vagina to the clitoral hood. Dissolvable sutures are then used to ensure a healthy and timely healing process. Regardless of activity level, we recommend women take at least 7-10 days off of work and you will need to refrain from aggressive physical activities for a short period of time during the recovery process. It is common for the area to be inflamed, tender, stiff, and swollen for several weeks after the surgery. Any activity that directly puts pressure or friction on or near the vagina can be incredibly uncomfrotable, and potentially damage the incision line.

Sex After Labiaplasty: Just Tell Me Already! 

We know that sex (and feeling sexy!) is an important part of our patient’s lives; it’s one of the reasons they come to us! Everyone’s body is different, but we typically see patients return to sexual activity and exercise 6 weeks after their surgery. We know you can’t wait to get back to your old routine, and being stuck in bed sucks! But, it is well worth the wait to rest and recover after your labiaplasty.
