Will The O-Shot Make My Vagina Tighter?

Back to All

It’s no surprise that vaginal looseness (or vaginal laxity) can create a lot of stress in women’s lives. Women experiencing vaginal looseness who are sexually active may feel self-conscious during sex, which can lead to performance anxiety and do serious harm to their self-confidence.

What can I do about vaginal looseness?

Our first piece of advice to anyone struggling with vaginal laxity is simple: take a deep breath and be kind to yourself! Vaginal looseness often arises from perfectly natural causes, like vaginal birth and aging, and there are many women out there who are dealing with the same issues. If you find that vaginal looseness is starting to have a negative impact on your quality of life, our second piece of advice is to schedule a free consultation with a trusted urogynecologist, such as Dr. Shashoua here at ALVR.

Vaginal looseness can sometimes coincide with a number of other issues, such as pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence, and the specifics of your individual condition can determine which treatment options will be the most effective. Dr. Shashoua is board certified in pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery and is one of the highest rated urogynecologists on RealSelf. As an expert in his field, he takes extra care to address each patient’s individual goals and concerns when making treatment recommendations.

What treatment options are available?

ALVR offers both surgical and non-surgical options for addressing vaginal looseness and sexual dysfunction. It should be noted that while some patients may notice improvement with non-surgical options, individual results may vary greatly depending on the severity of the condition.

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal rejuvenation, a.k.a. feminine rejuvenation, is the most popular surgical option and involves tightening the structural layers of the vagina and perrineum so that sensation during sex is improved.

ThermiVa

ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation is a non-invasive procedure that uses radio frequency to deliver thermal energy to the walls of the vagina and surrounding tissue, stimulating collagen and elastin production. This increases blood flow to the area, which helps restore the vaginal canal and results in improved sexual function. Patients generally experience the benefits of ThermiVa for up to one year after full treatment.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma therapy (aka “the O-shot”) is a non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation treatment in which a patient’s blood is drawn and all of the plasma is filtered out. That plasma is then referred to as “platelet-rich plasma”, or PRP, which contains growth factors that help to stimulate collagen production and blood flow to the clitoral where it’s injected. While the O-Shot can improve sensitivity and sexual pleasure, we would hesitate to call it a tightening procedure – some providers also inject PRP into the wall of the vagina and claim that this has a tightening effect, but if our patients are struggling with vaginal laxity we generally find that they have better results addressing their symptoms with procedures like vaginal rejuvenation or ThermiVa.

If you would like to learn more about any of these procedures or think you may be experiencing issues as a result of a pelvic floor disorder, don’t hesitate to contact us today to schedule a free consultation!
