Tightening “Down There”

“Does he do tightening down there? Ever since I had a baby things just feel different. Sex doesn’t feel the same, there’s not much sensation and sometimes there’s air there! Of course, I leak when I sneeze or exercise or even when I’m laughing!”

These are common stories we hear from our patients when we see them for a consultation regarding vaginoplasty and stress urinary incontinence. Sometimes they are coming in for an entirely different issue (such as UTIs), and upon further discussion we learn sex just hasn’t gotten back to baseline (or better) since the baby.

Pregnancy and deliveries can cause relaxation and stretching of the supportive muscles and tissues of the vagina.

The result?

Vaginal looseness, air passage, decreased pleasure with intercourse for you or your partner, maybe leakage and pelvic prolapse too (surrounding structures sagging and dropping into the vagina). You are not alone.
