Questions You Can’t Ask in Church

Back to All

While men tend to be open to sharing whatever odd or weird conditions they have going on downstairs, us ladies tend to be a little more conservative. This being the case, it makes it very difficult to get questions answered when something is bothering our lady parts. While Google is usually the first place we can look, often times, it doesn’t give us the exact answers we need, and even worse, it can sometimes mislead us into thinking we have some crazy unknown disease! Some of this misinformation can make women think they need a labiaplasty when they need a vaginoplasty, or vice-versa, leaving them lost, confused, and oftentimes in discomfort or pain. Many times we see patients that come in for labiaplasty consultations but really their main complaint is vaginal laxity or looseness.

At Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation, we specialize in female pelvic reconstructive surgery, and our chief medical expert, Dr. Shashoua, is no stranger to these questions of yours. Changes or concerns with vaginal anatomy are very normal, and at some point, are experienced by a majority of women whether or not we talk about it with each other. Very frequently, conditions that arise such as pelvic organ prolapse or stress urinary incontinence, have a lot to do with genetics and the biological makeup of your predecessors. The problem is, we often don’t know where to seek information, as mom and grandma don’t always tell us they had these issues!

As a result, many women are left at a standstill, asking themselves the timeless question – “Is my vagina normal?” While sometimes the problems are very minor, other times they can be quite bothersome and can require corrective surgery or a certain form of vaginal revision. Some examples include prolapse, in which the vaginal muscles weaken causing a vaginal bulge, or enlarged labia that become noticeable when one’s period starts or during hormonal changes and after deliveries. The important thing to remember is that it’s okay, and you are not alone. In our Austin based clinical suite, there is no question we haven’t heard before, and we pride ourselves in being able to deliver the most discrete and top of the line medical care that exists in our industry today.

So if you’re noticing vaginal relaxation, bulging, leakage or an enlarged labia, it is time to schedule a consultation. At your initial visit, you will be able to speak with one of our licensed providers and tell them as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing. Following this, you will have a pelvic exam to assess the cause of your symptoms and will be given a list of treatment options available, such as laser rejuvenation, or any of our other corrective surgeries. So whether you have major changes, minor changes, or something just doesn’t feel right, a consultation is a quick, easy, and harmless way to rid yourself of your worries, and move on with the life you want to live.
