Do I Have an “Innie” or an “Outie” Vagina?

Back to All
It’s pretty easy to tell whether or not you have an “innie” or an “outie” belly button, but how would you know if you have an innie or an outie vagina? It all comes down to your vulva, and more specifically, your labia minora and labia majora.
Before we get into the difference, let’s make one thing clear: both innie and outie vaginas are perfectly fine and normal. The placement of your vulva determines whether you have an innie or an outie vagina; so technically speaking, it’s actually an innie or an outie vulva, not vagina! The vulva is on the outside of the vagina and encompasses the labia majora, labia minora, and clitoral hood. If you have an “innie vagina” (or vulva, rather) then the labia majora will cover the labia minora and clitoral hood. However if you have an “outie vagina” (ahem, vulva) then your labia minora protrudes outside of your labia majora. As a result, you’ll have a more prominent labia minora.
Again, both types of vulvas are totally normal. It’s natural for your labia to change over time due to hormones and aging. That said, patients with an enlarged labia minora or an “outie vagina” can sometimes experience discomfort in day-to-day life. Everyday activities like finding the right bathing suit bottoms or wearing leggings can become more challenging. Patients also tend to have more physical irritation from clothing as a result. An enlarged labia minora can also have ramifications on your sex life, with patients often finding that it’s harder to achieve clitoral stimulation during sex.
If having an enlarged labia or “outie vagina” is disrupting your quality of life, you should know that there are treatment options available here at Austin Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation. One procedure we offer is labiaplasty, which is meant to reduce the size of an enlarged labia. It’s an easy and safe procedure that we’re able to conduct within our very own practice, reducing cost. The process starts with an initial consultation in which we’ll align on your expectations and goals for the procedure, and from there we’ll schedule your labiaplasty.
Because it’s not uncommon for out of state (and out of country) patients to travel to our practice for their labiaplasty, we also offer remote consultations. Dr. Shashoua’s experience and our pricing makes us one of the highest value providers in the country, and in many cases it’s actually cheaper for patients to visit us from out of state than it is to go to a surgeon in their home market – especially if you live in a coastal city like Los Angeles or New York.
If you have an outie vagina or any other concerns “down there” you want to discuss, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team – we’re here to answer any questions you may have! Contact us today to schedule a free consultation.
What Kind of Vagina Is Considered “Normal”?
What first formed your standard for what a “normal” vagina looks like? For many people, it was modern pornography, a band camp dare, or comments from a romantic partner. “Innie vaginas” make up what many consider to be the standard: vulvas […]
