Labiaplasty is an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure that essentially reduces the size and appearance of an enlarged labia minora. Often referred to as a “barbie vagina” or “designer vagina” procedure, labiaplasty can drastically improve a patient’s quality of life. The friction of an enlarged labia or clitorial hood caused by clothing can create significant discomfort, which can be exacerbated by everyday things like tight pants or exercise. Having an enlarged labia can also make it more difficult to reach clitoral stimulation during sex.

The procedure begins with numbing the labia with a local anesthetic. We then use a trimming technique to minimize the linear portion of the thickened, darker skin that extends from the vaginal opening to the clitroal hood. From here, we reduce the skin where the clitoral hood meets the labia. If a patient has a bulging or drooping clitoris, then we’ll lift the clitoris and reduce it with a clitoropexy.
