What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Posted by ALVR | August 20, 2021
Back to AllIf you have been looking into hormone replacement therapy, you might have come across the term “bioidentical hormone replacement therapy” (BHRT). It should come as no surprise that this is different from traditional forms of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) like pills, creams and injections.
What’s the difference between BHRT and HRT?
BHRT and traditional HRT utilize different sources for the hormones used in the treatments. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy uses more “natural” sources, like plant estrogens, whereas traditional hormone replacement therapy might use synthetic hormones that don’t perfectly match the hormones in our bodies. SottoPelle, for instance, is a plant-derived BHRT that functions by mimicking the body’s natural hormone secretion – in other words, the plant-derived hormones in BHRT are biologically identical (hence the term “bioidentical”) to what your body would naturally produce.
Why should I consider BHRT?
Similar to traditional hormone replacement therapy options, BHRT addresses changes in hormone levels in order to bring them back to the “normal” range. Symptoms of hormonal imbalance include loss of libido, hot flashes, mood changes, and weight gain. By addressing these imbalances, BHRT can not only lead to increased energy and libido but to improved cognition and mood as well. It’s also been shown to have benefits for bone density and cardiovascular health.
How is BHRT administered?
SottoPelle hormone pellets are a form of BHRT that are easy to administer and low maintenance. First, basic lab tests are completed in order to understand what combination of hormones might be right for you based on your current levels. Pellets are customized to fit your exact needs and can include estrogen and/or testosterone.
SottoPelle is administered within the clinic and requires little downtime for recovery. Patients will receive a local anesthetic injection, typically in the hip area, and once the area is numb the rice-sized pellets are inserted. Unlike creams, pills, and injections, pellets provide a steady stream of hormones – something that the alternatives and older methods can’t do, which leads to more unwanted side effects.
