How Should I Prepare For My Labiaplasty Procedure?
Posted by ALVR | February 11, 2021
Back to AllCongratulations! You’ve done your homework, read reviews of different surgeons and practices, and you’ve chosen ALVR for your labiaplasty procedure (if you did your research right, that is…). You’ve visited our office for your free consultation, met Dr. Shashua, and you are ready to schedule your surgery. So what happens now?
Aside from a few timing concerns, the process of preparing for your labiaplasty procedure is very straightforward. In terms of timing your surgery, you should plan to take 1-2 weeks off of work to heal post-op (this will depend on the specifics of your procedure and will be discussed with your surgeon ahead of time). You will also want to be sure to schedule your surgery for a time of year where your recovery window won’t interfere with any big plans, such as vacations or sporting events, as we recommend six weeks of avoiding swimming, strenuous exercise, and intercourse.
In terms of physical preparation, it is never a bad idea to make sure you take great care of your body before any procedure, as this will help with the healing process afterward. Getting plenty of sleep, drinking lots of water, and exercising regularly in the days and weeks leading up to the procedure will help ensure that your body is functioning at its highest ability when it comes time to heal.
Along those lines, abstaining from smoking, drugs, and alcohol is recommended. Medications that can thin the blood like NSAIDs (aleve, aspirin, ibuprofen) and fish oils should be held a week before the procedure as they could potentially have a negative impact. If this all sounds overwhelming to you, don’t fret – these precautions are general recommendations for any surgical procedure, and you certainly do not have to live like a fitness guru for two months for your surgery to be a success. We will also go through your medical history in detail to ensure you receive the appropriate instructions in preparation for the big day. The main point is to remember that a healthier you leading up to the surgery will mean a healthier result afterward.
Because we perform the procedure in our office with local anesthesia (you can learn more about how this works on the labiaplasty procedure page), you do not need to avoid eating and drinking the night before or on the day of the surgery.
We hope that you find this information helpful and that it gives you confidence going into your appointment! Don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions, remember that we’re always available to help you in any way that you need.
