How much pain is normal after labiaplasty?

Back to All

We warn all of our patients about the inevitable bruising and swelling after the labiaplasty procedure. That’s a given, so how do you know when it’s more than normal and should be a cause for concern?

Everyone is different when it comes to swelling––your case might be more or less inflamed than what you see in our labiaplasty healing process photos. Initially, we are focused on controlling the pain and making sure the swelling is not excessive.

As time goes by, we want to see evidence that the post-op symptoms are improving gradually over time. One red flag is if the pain and swelling after labiaplasty seems to be diminishing, then suddenly takes a step back and becomes worse. In that case, you’ll want to see us (or your surgeon) right away. Sometimes this can be a sign of a slight skin infection that can be treated with an antibiotic, but your physician would have to see it in person to be sure.
